How to find a hip hood in a new city
Lately I’ve been using Google Maps to search for undiscovered jewels of neighborhoods in East London. In this map, Pink=art Red=books is the color code. I marked target hoods w/ rectangles.
Selection criteria for finding a place to live:
- *moderate* clustering of art & book dots (you get more space for lower rent if you’re further from the hot spots)
- word-of-mouth cultural appeal (we’ve heard like-minded people mention the area)
- proximity to the tube (or a rail that connects to a tube we use - max. 2 transfer commute)
- not too far from the city center (centre!) nor too close
What else should I be looking for? Leave me suggestions in the comments, the hunt is ON!
